Discovering Wine Storage Cabinets

The joys of wine have manifested and expanded in numerous ways throughout the years. There is never an end, it seems, to the human imagination, particularly in pursuit and admiration of such joys as wine drinking and collecting. For those who like wine, there is now a wide variety of furniture -yes, furniture, which can be incorporated into any person's décor and wine-drinking lifestyle. Possibly at the top of this pyramid of specialized wine furniture and accoutrements are wine storage cabinets.

Let's face it: many people not only enjoy drinking wine, they also like to collect and store their favorite labels for that future special occasion. Further, displaying, even showing off one's passions has always been a part of humanity, and wine collection is not an exception. One of the ways to do this is with wine storage cabinets.

Wine storage cabinets are like any other cabinets, coming in many colors, shapes, and sizes. Yet their primary feature follows their functionality: providing a safe resting place for bottles of wine. Usually this entices holes or mini-tunnels which, optimally, will be horizontally-placed, thus allowing wine bottles to rest on their sides. This is an important point, particularly for those people who are extremely serious about wine collecting as often they will store certain bottles for decades (in some cases, families will keep certain bottles of fine vintage for a century or more). By resting on its side, the wine keeps the cork moist. Otherwise, if the cork dries out, it will shrink in time, allowing air into the bottle and destroying the wine.

Wine storage cabinets are typically made of wood, although through the years this has changed. Now some cabinets are constructed from Formica, metal, even sturdy forms of plastic. Everyone has their own tastes, and while wood is still the favored material, the main thing to consider when purchasing a cabinet is that the storage holes are placed either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, depending upon the use that they will have. (Even though horizontal storage is optimal for long-term storage, other storage positions can also be practical, and in some cases, as with wines capped with wax rather than cork, necessary.)

If you are looking for wine storage solutions ewineracks.com has a fine selection, from full-sized cabinets to simple carts and trays.
